ATHENS, Ga. - Junior John Peers put on a valiant fight in the opening round at the NCAA Individual Championships put was unable to pull out the win.
Peers faced Baylor's Denes Lukacs on Wednesday morning falling in the first set 7-6 (6). The Melbourne, Australia native rallied in the second set winning 7-6 (5). Lukacs got the best of Peers in the final set of the match winning, 6-4.
Peers rounds out the 2010 season with an overall record of 29-9. In tournament action, he is 10-5. It was the second consecutive season Peers appearance in the NCAA Individual Championships as last season he and Robert McKenzie competed in the doubles portion.
