Blue Raider Volleyball Ends Season With 28-4 Record; Denied NCAA At-Large Bid

November 27, 2005 · MT Media Relations
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, but the disappointment by the team and coaches should not overshadow a successful 2005 season.

The Blue Raiders, who were picked to finish third in the Sun Belt East preseason poll, had a phenomenal year and ended the season second in the East behind Western Kentucky. Middle Tennessee's No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament was the highest seed the squad had received since entering the Sun Belt. The Blue Raiders reached the finals of the Sun Belt Championships before falling 3-2 to Western Kentucky on November 19.

Middle Tennessee ends the season 28-4, which ties the school record for the second most wins in school history. The 2005 squad did break the school record for the best winning percentage in a single season with .875.

The 2006 season has already been tabbed Middle Tennessee's year. The Blue Raiders return all six starters plus their libero for next year. The returning players include Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Alicia Lemau'u, First Team All-Conference Andressa Lyra and Second Team All-Conference pick Ashley Adams. Head Coach Matt Peck is also adding three stellar signees including six-foot setter Leslie Clark who was the Kansas Volleyball Player of the Year.
