Adds QB, WR, CB, and DLJune 8, 2010 · Athletic Communications
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Head Football Coach Rick Stockstill announced today he has inked four student-athletes who will join the program immediately. All four are transfers and will be rising juniors.
The Blue Raiders added two on offense and two on defense with quarterback Jeff Murphy (6-0, 195), wide receiver Vincent Van Horne (5-11, 190), cornerback T.L. Edwards (6-1, 180), and defensive lineman Jesse Kirkland (6-0, 275).
"We are very excited about all four student-athletes and believe they will fill much needed voids in our roster," said Stockstill. "Coming out of signing day we felt we needed a guy at each position of quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback, and defensive line because of injuries and the lack of depth."
Murphy, a right-handed signal-caller, comes to Murfreesboro by way of Alameda, Calif. He played the previous two years at Laney Junior College where he was all-conference and all-region. In 2009, he completed 144 of 251 passes for 1,749 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Van Horne was a teammate of current Blue Raider quarterback Logan Kilgore at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, Calif. Van Horne had 25 receptions for 516 yards and four touchdowns this past season.
Edwards, from Riverside, Calif., played the past two years at Saddlebrook College where he collected 22 tackles and three interceptions.
Kirkland was an all-conference performer as a freshman and sophomore at Citrus College in California. A native of Chino Hills, Calif., Kirkland turned in 32 tackles, including five for loss of yards, a sack, forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 2009.
Edwards, Murphy, and Van Horne are currently enrolled at Middle Tennessee and Kirkland will be in town in July.

Rick Stockstill also announced on Tuesday that redshirt freshman quarterback Jamal Ramsey has quit the team. Ramsey played his prep football at BGA.
The 6-1, 185-pound Ramsey did not see any action during the 2009 season.
"Jamal came to me at the end of spring practice and expressed his desire to quit the team and find another university to complete his education and continue playing football", said Stockstill.
