MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's tennis head coach Dale Short announced the signing of Morgan Richard to scholarship papers this week for the spring semester.

The L'Hay les Roses, France, native will enroll in January and should be a vital part of the Blue Raiders defending their Sun Belt Championship this spring. Short says the Frenchman will add depth to a strong lineup for Middle Tennessee in 2006.

"We have a lot of quality players, strong players, and Morgan should be able to challenge for the 4-6 spots in the lineup," Short said. "We are very well situated for this year with three seniors on the team and then three juniors at the top of the lineup. Morgan should be able to come in and gain valuable experience for the future along with [fellow signee] Joao [Paoliello] for next season. He is very capable of starting and taking the place of someone in the lineup if they do not have their 'A' game.

"I've been getting a lot of calls about Morgan with a bunch of other coaches recruiting him," Short added. "He has a big serve, a solid all-around game and a lot of international tournament experience."

Paoliello signed three weeks ago, also for the spring semester. Middle Tennessee opens the spring dual match season January 28 against Chattanooga at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro.
