Blue Raiders add transfer
Walker joins the team after a season at Oklahoma StateJune 18, 2010 · MT Athletic Communications
The Columbus, Ga., native was tabbed as First Team All-State by the Atlanta Journal Constitution as a senior at Northside High School. Walker averaged 15 points, 12.3 rebounds and 5.3 blocked shots per game as a senior. ESPNU ranked him as the No. 14 center prospect in the country and received All-Bi-City as a junior and senior by the Columbus (Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer.
"We are very excited about having Torin join the Middle Tennessee basketball family. We were really, really impressed with Torin as a person. He comes from a great family, his mom, Cynthia, has done a tremendous job with him," Davis said. "We feel Torin has tremendous upside as a player. We watched Torin a ton in summer AAU and just saw him get better and better. He was recruited at a national level out of high school. Torin and his mom visited our campus and felt very comfortable academically as well as with his basketball development."
"I think with his frame and body along with his work habits he really has a chance to develop into a fantastic player at Middle Tennessee."
Due to the transfer rule, Walker will have to sit out the 2010-11 season and will be eligible to play beginning with the 2011-12 season with three years of eligibility remaining.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to play for Coach Davis. He is a very good coach with aspirations of taking the program to higher level and I am excited to be on board and participate. I didn't expect to find such a good school this close to home and Middle Tennessee is very good academically and has a beautiful campus. I just fell in love with it when I came on my visit," Walker said.
