OTHER PUBLICATIONS AGREE: The Blue Raiders were picked to finish fifth in this week's Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll, and two other publications - Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America - concur, also selection Middle Tennessee to finish fifth in the nine-team league this season. In Collegiate Baseball, Matt Scott is the projected Pitcher of the Year, while Todd Martin is one of the two projected Players of the Year. Michael McKenry, Marcus Taylor and Allan Woodward are also named Players to Watch of the upcoming season. In Baseball America, Jeff Beachum, Nathan Hines and Scott were named to the All-Conference team, with Myles Ervin voted Freshman of the Year. Middle Tennessee opens the season February 18 at Reese Smith Field with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against IP-Fort Wayne.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE: The Blue Raiders had their first two intrasquad scrimmages on Thursday and Friday, with all of the staff's pitchers throwing one time during the 13-innings of play. Middle Tennessee will practice Saturday at noon, take part in the Show-Me Camp Sunday and then begin team practice again Monday at 2:45 p.m.
COUNTDOWN TO FIRST PITCH AT GOBLUERAIDERS.COM: Check out the countdown to first pitch on the baseball page at GoBlueRaiders.com. Middle Tennessee opens the season February 18 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. against IP-Fort Wayne. The season opens just more than 20 days from today.
BASEBALL SEASON TICKET RENEWALS: The Middle Tennessee ticket office mailed 2006 Baseball Season Ticket Renewals last month. Fans should have received those forms in the mail by now. Deadline for renewals is Monday, January 30. Anyone who does not receive a renewal notice or anyone interested in buying season tickets should contact the ticket office at 615/898-2103 or 1-888-YES-MTSU.
BASEBALL TEAM CAMP DATES ALSO SET: The Blue Raider baseball program will host its second annual Team Camp, July 10-13, at Reese Smith Field. The camp includes five games plus instruction, as well as a pro-style workout with area scouts on the first evening. Team coaches and players receive instruction each afternoon of the session from Middle Tennessee coaches, current and former players, as well as area high school and college coaches and scouts. OTHER SUMMER CAMP DATES SET AS WELL: Three other summer baseball camps will be held in June, starting the 11th and running until the 22nd of the month. The Pitcher-Catcher Camp runs June 11-13 and the Hitting Camp is June 13-15, with both camps for ages 13-2006 High School senior. The Day Camp for ages 7-12 ONLY is June 19-22.
