Women's Tennis Wins Again

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team posted its second straight victory to start the season, defeating UT-Pan Am, 6-0, late Saturday night in a match delayed by rain for most of the day.

UT-Pan Am played earlier in the day against UTEP, with that match delayed because of rain as well. With the inclement weather in the area again Saturday night, the match did not start until after 7 p.m. and no doubles was played.

The Blue Raiders swept all six of the singles matches in straight sets, playing the same lineup as during Friday's opening victory.

Freshman Marlene Chemin won at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2, over Silke Buksik, and sophomore Claudia Szabo defeated Marine de Bourqueney at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1.

Freshman Elvira Yusupova was a 6-3, 6-0, winner at No. 3 over Sheila Mabulac, while sophomore Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeated Elysia Sloan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4.

Freshman Kelly Adams won 6-1, 6-1, over Nicole Garcia at No. 5, and Pooja Kommireddi was a 6-0, 6-1, winner over Jessica Nanez at No. 6.

Middle Tennessee opens the home schedule next weekend with matches against East Tennessee and Wichita State at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro.
