This is part five of a series on the freshmen members of the Middle Tennessee soccer team. GoBlueRaiders.com recently asked a series of questions to each of the seven players and the responses of Heidel Johannessen of Hellvik, Norway, are featured.
What factors led to your decision of attending Middle Tennessee?
The factors that led me to my decision of attending Middle Tennessee were primarily that they have a very good soccer team. They also have a very good coach and coaching staff.
What advice have you received from an upperclassmen thus far that you will use the most during the season?
If you have a question, do not hesitate to ask for help.
What parts of your game have you been working on improving the most?
Holding and distributing the ball, turning with the ball, and shooting.
Now that you have lived in Murfreesboro for over a month, what about this city do you enjoy the most?
I think this city is very different from the Norwegian city I live in. I enjoy that this city is so different from Norway. The thing I enjoy most is all the people I have met, everyone is really nice, and especially my teammates.
What contributions do you think you can make to help this team take the next step?
I am a strong player that is good at holding the ball and distributing it back to my teammates. I am very comfortable playing the ball in the air.
What has been your favorite memory of your time at MT so far?
My favorite memory of my time at MT so far is the trip to Mississippi and the game against Ole Miss. That was a great experience and I really looking forward to all the other games.
How have you seen yourself grow as a person since you have been here?
I have met a lot of new people, done a lot of paperwork and I have to use a foreign language all the time. This has helped me grow as a person.
What are your career goals after graduation?
I want to go to medical school.
What are some of the things you enjoy doing outside of soccer?
I like to hang out with my friends, watch a movie, bake or do something else together.
Is there a story behind you wearing your jersey number?
No, it was randomly assigned to me.
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
No, other than that I always listen to music before the games, although I do not listen to any songs in particular.
What do you miss most about being away from home?
I miss my family and friends. I also miss the Norwegian nature and weather.
