MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team will continue its fall season by staying within the state's borders and traveling to Chattanooga for the Steve Baras Fall Classic Friday through Sunday. The event will be the third of four fall tournaments for the Blue Raiders.

"We continue to improve every day, both in practice and in the fall tournaments in which we have competed," head coach Melissa Schaub. "While there are some injuries we are working through which prevent us from being 100 percent healthy, I like the attitude everyone has had and how that has carried over to success on the court."

Middle Tennessee played last weekend at the UL Invitational in Lafayette, La. Sophomore Yuiri Nomoto continued to shine, posting wins in five of her six singles matches, including winning three of the NE Flight to win the bracket championship.

Juniors Alex Dachos and Marietta Bigus also had strong showings at the tournament, each winning two matches of the consolation bracket to advance to the semifinals. One more win by each would have set up an all-Blue Raider final.

Fellow junior Taylor Coffey continues to work through a nagging injury, which has limited her action this fall and allowed her to play just one singles match last weekend. Carla Nava, another junior, is also hampered by an injury, which has hampered her progress in her second season with the team.

Sophomore Lexi Brand, a transfer into the program from Maryland, has not seen action yet due to injury.

The Steve Baras Fall Classic, hosted by Chattanooga, attracts a number of the top players and teams from around the Southeast.
