MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's cross country teams are set to continue their 2010 campaign on Saturday, as both squads will compete at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky., at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park race course. The men's 8,000 meter race will begin at 8:30 a.m. to be followed immediately by the women's 5,000 meter contest.

Head coach Dean Hayes sees the Greater Louisville Classic as the team's first opportunity to gage its success going forward to the Sun Belt Championships at the end of the month. Both teams will be pitted against the largest and most competitive fields to date, with the event being held on a fast flat course.

"We use the first three races of the year to run and continue to get in shape," said Hayes. "When we go to Louisville, we want to really see how we will stack up a month for before the conference meet."

Men's top runner, Festus Chemaoi was the ninth collegiate finisher at last season's Greater Louisville Classic, completing the course in 24:20.48 and leading the Blue Raiders to its first ever top five finish at the meet. Entering the 2010 race undefeated after three races, Chemaoi will face his most difficult opposition of the season as he battles to stay perfect.

Hayes said, "This will be a good test for Festus. He is good and knows he has what it takes to run with the best in any race. Saturday, he will need to run strong and smart because he will have to good competition."

Women's freshman Deanna Brasz has been the top MT finisher in the first three races of the 2010 season. The Vineland Station, Ontario native has finished in the top five overall in the previous two races, including a fourth place effort at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic two weeks ago.
