BOCA RATON, Fla. - A goal midway through the first half was the only mark on the scoreboard Friday night as Middle Tennessee dropped a 1-0 Sun Belt soccer decision at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. The loss snaps the Blue Raiders' three-game winning streak.
Middle Tennessee (6-8, 3-2 Sun Belt) had plenty of chances throughout the 90 minutes, outshooting the home-standing Owls 20-13 but could not find the back of the net. MT also held a 7-1 edge on corner kicks.
Florida Atlantic's lone score came at 22:34 as Janelle Blake sent a long through ball to Alexandra Major, who redirected the pass into the upper right corner past Blue Raider keeper Rebecca Cushing.
Middle Tennessee attempted to counter but Courtney Zwetsch collected six saves in the Owl net for the shutout. Sophomore Paige Goeglein paced the Blue Raiders with five shots, while classmate Whitney Jorgenson added four to the attack.
Blake, Major and Allison Griffin had three apiece for Florida Atlantic (4-8, 3-2 Sun Belt).
The four-game road swing for Middle Tennessee will conclude at 11 a.m. Sunday when it heads to Miami to face FIU.
