Volleyball sweeps Troy, 3-0

Adams tallies 11 kills and five block assists

TROY, Ala. - The Blue Raiders extended their winning streak to 13 matches, sweeping Troy 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) on Friday night at Sartain Hall in Troy, Ala.

"We had a lot of things working tonight, and number one was our block," head coach Matt Peck said. "Offensively, we were rally, really strong tonight across the board. It was a really nice match for us on the road, and I thought Ashley was amazing tonight."

Middle Tennessee was led by Ashley Adams with a match-high 11 kills, hitting .429. Reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Izabela Kozon was second on the team with 9. For the night, the high octane Blue Raider offense recorded 42 kills to Troy's 25, outhitting the Trojans a blistering .422 to .000.

MT also put on a strong performance defensively, tallying 14 blocks as a team, led by the trio of Lindsay Cheatham, Brandi Waller and Adams. Both Cheatham and Waller led the team with six block assists, and Adams notched five.

Brynne Henderson tied for the match-high in digs with 11, and Kozon was second with eight.

Behind stellar efforts from Cheatham and Adams, the Blue Raiders won the opening stanza, 25-15. The duo combined for seven kills and seven block assists in the frame. It was a back and forth affair in the early goings, but after Troy tied the set at 9-9, Middle Tennessee ran off 10 of the next 12 points to put it out of reach. In the set, MT hit a scorching .500 to Troy's .000.

The Blue Raiders took advantage of an early run in a 25-14 second set rout. Middle Tennessee recorded 11 of the first 12 points, and Troy would never pull closer than eight in the frame. Adams and Waller each tallied four kills in the set as MT outhit Troy .400 to .054.

For the 10th consecutive match, Middle Tennessee entered the third set with a 2-0 lead, and would post a 25-16 victory to secure the sweep. Kozon led the way in the frame with five kills as the Blue Raiders once again controlled the offense, outhitting Troy .370 to -.061.

Middle Tennessee will look to tie a school record for consecutive wins on Sunday at South Alabama. The match is slated to begin at noon in Mobile, Ala.
