Blue Raiders finish 9th in spring opener

GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Middle Tennessee shot a disappointing final round of 308 to place ninth at the Santa Anita/North Texas Classic. The Blue Raiders finished the spring opening event with a 905 total on the par 72 course.

Houston won the tournament with an 865 while Indiana was second with an 868. Southeastern Louisiana had an 869 to take third and Texas State came in fourth with a total of 879. Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Lafayette rounded out the top five with a score of 883.

"Once again we struggled with consistency on the golf course," said Head Coach Johnny Moore.

Nick Bailes came in 20th to lead the Blue Raiders with a 222 total. After two rounds of 73, Bailes carded a 76 in the final round.

The leading golfer in the fall, Spencer Provow, was 28th with a 226. Provow had the team's top round of the day on Monday with a 73.

Rick Cochran tied for 36th with a 229, while Josh Nelms tied for 42nd with a 233. Derrick Bright rounded out the scoring with a 240 to finish 53rd.

The Blue Raiders will travel to Houston, Texas on Feb. 27-28 for the All-American Invitational.
