Middle Tennessee picked to finish second in EastOctober 19, 2010 · Athletic Communications
NEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee women's basketball seniors Emily Queen and Anne Marie Lanning each earned their first respective Preseason All-Sun Belt honor, as the conference office unveiled the three five-player Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams Tuesday.
Queen, who played in just 12 games a year ago after suffering a season-ending injury in early January, was picked to the Second Team, while Lanning followed up an All-Sun Belt Tournament accolade with a Third Team nod.
Queen is the Blue Raiders' top returning rebounder with 9.6 rpg in Sun Belt games and 5.8 rpg overall last year. She also enters her final campaign as the team's second-leading scorer with 6.8 ppg in league games and 4.4 ppg overall after starting her last five games played prior to the injury. She posted her only double-double of the campaign, and sixth of her career, against Louisiana with a season-best 12 points and 13 rebounds. The Ashland, Ky., native equaled the rebounding total on two other occasions in league action, including the next game at Arkansas State and in the Sun Belt opener against Western Kentucky.
Lanning is Middle Tennessee's top returning scorer from a year ago when she averaged 8.9 ppg in Sun Belt games, one-half point higher than her overall average. She received the All-SBC Tournament Team honor after finishing the three-game run with 36 points, 17 assists, eight rebounds and 8-of-8 from the foul line. She tallied double-figure points in 11 of the final 14 league games, including two of three in the SBC Tournament, after being inserted into the starting lineup. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., product nailed a career-high 26 points, including a career-best eight 3-pointers, at defending national runner-up Louisville. She only miseed two free throws all season (23-of-25, 92.0 percent) and dished a career-high eight assists two times in a three-game stretch, at Florida Atlantic in the regular-season finale and versus Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Tournament.
As a team, the Blue Raiders were selected to finish second in the league's East Division. Middle Tennessee collected one first-place vote and 56 overall points in the preseason poll.
The Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams and Poll were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
The Blue Raiders will begin regular-season action at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 14 when they play host to USF inside the Murphy Center. Season tickets are now available by calling 1-888-YES-MTSU or visiting GoBlueRaiders.com.
