Szivos tallies first career double-doubleOctober 22, 2010 · Athletic Communications
"I think that with the absence of Izabela Kozon, Maria and Ashley really picked it up quite a bit tonight," head coach Matt Peck said. "Lindsay and Sasha also had good nights for us, and this is the kind of match we needed after having a tough loss last week."
Szivos, who played the previous two seasons at New Orleans, notched the first double-double of her Middle Tennessee career with 10 kills and a match-high 10 digs. The junior was remarkably efficient offensively, hitting at a .500 clip for the match.
Adams posted the match high in kills with 16 at a .444 rate, and Lindsay Cheatham hit .778 on the evening, notching 7 kills. As a team, the Blue Raiders outhit the Warhawks .430 to .034.
The Blue Raiders came out on fire, hitting over .500 in the first two sets sets. In the opening stanza, both Adams and Cheatham recorded five kills, and Adams kept it going in the second frame with another eight.
The third set would prove to be the most competitive, with the teams staying close in the early goings, but Middle Tennessee ran off eight consecutive points to stretch a one point lead to nine at 16-7, putting it out of reach for the Warhawks.
The Blue Raiders (19-5, 10-1 SBC) will return to action tomorrow night against Sun Belt foe UL-Lafayette. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Gym.
