Blue Raiders Fall to Ole Miss, 7-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis team dropped to 3-5 on the season with a 7-0 loss at 35th-ranked Ole Miss Friday, the Blue Raiders third straight defeat to a ranked opponent on the road.

Ole Miss won all three doubles matches and all six singles outings to improve to 5-0 this season.

In doubles, 41st-ranked Virginia Tomatis and Ilona Somers defeated Marlene Chemin and Claudia Szabo, 8-4, at No. 1 before Preethi Subramanian and Mimi renaudin won 8-3 over Pooja Kommireddi and Elvira Yusupova at No. 3. UM's Nika Koukhartchouk and Knesiia Tokarieva took care of Kelly Adams and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom, 8-3, at No. 2.

The Rebels won all six singles matches in straight sets.

Somers won 6-0, 6-0, over Yusupova at No. 3, and Subramanian defeated Adams, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Renaudin took care of Kommireddi at No. 6, 6-2, 6-2, while Tomatis won 6-1, 6-0, over Chemin at No. 1. Tokarieva defeated Siljestrom, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4, and Koukhartchouk took care of Szabo at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3.

"Right now we're still trying to figure out how to play with each other in doubles and we're doing a much better job," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We're putting ourselves in the position where we want to be and are failing to capitalize on those opportunities. But it's encouraging that we're in those positions.

"And in singles we just can't get over a flu-bug that has hit just about everyone on the team, including me this morning," Ojeda added.

The Blue Raiders host Tennessee Tech Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro.
