MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Head Soccer Coach Aston Rhoden has announced the signings of two prep standouts - Kate Donnelly and Mary Zapapas - to scholarship agreements.

Donnelly is a defender from Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Zapapas is a defender/midfielder from Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colo. They join Lauren Eaton, a defender/midfielder from Coppell (Texas) High School; Sara Beth Lee, a defender/midfielder from Tuscola High School in Waynesville, N.C.; Erynn Murray, a keeper from R.J. Reynolds High School in Kernersville, N.C.; and Jennifer Threlkeld, a forward from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas, in the 2006 Blue Raider signing class.

Donnelly is a four-year letterwinner at Canterbury High School and helped lead her team to a 14-3-3 record, including 10 consecutive wins and 13 shutouts, during the 2005 season. Although Donnelly's primary position is center back, she produced six goals and three assists when she was moved to forward.

The versatile Donnelly earned All-State honorable mention honors in 2005, as well as first-team all-district. She was team MVP in 2004 and 2005 and was named Best Defender in the 2005 Eagle Classic.

"(Donnelly) is an excellent player and will be a fine addition to our team," Rhoden said. "She's a very good defender and she is a very versatile player."

Zapapas earned All-State honors in 2005 for her superlative play at Arapahoe High School. She also was midfield MVP, first-team all-league and All-American in 2005, while also earning first-team all league honors in 2004. She also is eligible for the National Honor Society.

"(Zapapas) is the most versatile player in our recruiting class this year," Rhoden said. "She is capable of playing anywhere on the left side of the field, is a very technical player, and can be an attacking threat from deep positions. Her experience and leadership at both the club and high school level will be an asset to our team."
