Stage is Set for Showdown at June Stewart Invitational

Nashville, Tenn. - The re-match has been set between Middle Tennessee Lady Raider tennis player Manon Kruse and No. 17th ranked Sarah Riske of Vanderbilt.

Both advanced in the June Stewart Invitational at Vanderbilt University as Kruse defeated Clemson's Alix Lacelarie 7-6, 6-4 in flight one Saturday. Kruse remains undefeated (9-0) in the fall and will be looking for her third tournament title.

Other Lady Raider tennis action included Carien Venter who lost in her match to Sarah Witten of Kentucky 4-6, 2-6 in Flight three while Stacy Varnell defeated Femke de Boer of UAB in the flight five of the consolation semi-finals 6-0, 6-1. Tanja Buchheim also one in consolation of flight six 6-2, 6-2, while Verena Preiss fell in flight three to Penn State's Maaria Husain 4-6, 1-6. Freshman Emily Vest also lost in flight eight 1-6, 1-6.

In doubles, Kruse and Varnell suffered their first loss of the fall to Kentucky's Witten and Carolina Mayorga 4-8 for second place. The team falls to 9-1 on the season.
