MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team dropped four of six singles matches to 67th-ranked Houston, falling 4-2 to the Cougars Wednesday afternoon at Hoffs Courts in Houston, Texas.

Only singles was played in the match because of high winds. Middle Tennessee fell to 5-6 overall this season with the loss.

UH's Kami Miller defeated Elvira Yusupova, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3, before Yolandi Terblanche won 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 over Kelly Adams and Loli Gomez took care of Claudia Szabo at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1, giving the Cougars (9-2) a 3-0 advantage.

Middle Tennessee's Pooja Kommireddi defeated Vicky Simpson, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6, keeping the Blue Raiders alive, but UH's Brianna Bateup won 6-3, 6-2, over Marlene Chemin at No. 1 to clinch the Houston victory. Blue Raider Ann-Kristin Siljestrom picked up the team's other point with a 6-4, 7-6, triumph at No. 4 over Sonja Nikolic.

"I thought the girls played well and fought in every match," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "It's been a long couple of weeks with just about everyone on the team coming down with the flu at some point or another, including the coaches. But the girls have continued to improve with each match. Now we look forward to coming home and playing this weekend."

Middle Tennessee hosts Murray State Saturday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center, the team's first outdoor match of the year on campus.
