MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee's track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, as they are set to play host to the 2011 Blue Raider Invitational at Murphy Center.
Scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's and women's weight throw, the meet will feature a full slate of field events to be followed at 2 p.m. with track events. The day will conclude with the men's mile relay.
With teams from Belmont, Chattanooga Florida A&M, Samford, TSU and Troy present, the Blue Raiders will have strong competition as they continue to prepare and improve for February's Sun Belt Indoor Championships at Arkansas State.
Entering the meet, 11 MT athletes hold top conference marks. Noah Akwu, Josh Butler and the men's 4x400 meter relay team all lead the conference lists in their respective events with numbers from last weekend's Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
At last year's Blue Raider Invitational, Cherice Robertson tied a Middle Tennessee program record in the high jump, leaping 5-8 (1.73m). Later in the day, she earned an NCAA Provisional time of 7.84 in the 55 meter hurdles. Also on the day, teammate Nyeisha Wright achieved the "Double," with victories in both the long and triple jumps.
