Blue Raiders fall to Brown 6-1

The match began with Brown winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Shaun Waters and freshman Ben Davis paired to face Brandon Burke and Soufiane Azarqui at No. 1 doubles but fell 8-6. At No. 2, freshman Elliot Barnwell and Joseph Cohen fell 8-3 to Tom Deighton and Kendrick Au. Rounding out play, junior Matthew Langley and r-freshman Dimitri Pippos fell 8-4 to Charlie Posner and Sam Fife.

"We are learning to face adversity and these types of matches are a key example," head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "We have to get tougher and learn to fight through after falling behind."

In singles play, Davis recorded the only win for Middle Tennessee after defeating Fife 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. It was Davis' first three-set match of his career and he improved to 6-0 in singles on the season.

Waters fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Brandon Burke at No. 1 singles while Langley lost his match 6-2, 6-3 to Mike Hill at the No. 2 spot.

In No. 4 singles, Cohen battled after winning the first set 6-3 but could not pull out the win as Deighton won the final two sets 6-2, 6-2.

Wrapping up the action for the Blue Raiders, Barnwell fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 to Au and Pippos lost his match 6-2, 6-2 to Timmy Klanke.

The Blue Raiders will be back in action when they face Yale at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Results from the matches will be posted as soon as they become available.
