MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball (11-30-1) split with Memphis (21-19) on Wednesday losing the first game 2-0 and coming back to win game two 3-2 at Greenbrook Park.

Down 2-1 heading into the sixth inning of the second game, Middle Tennessee showed its recent ability for coming from behind to take a game yet again. With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Blue Raider Brandi Boehner drew a one out walk and scored when left fielder Kristine Reed hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.

In the seventh inning Middle Tennessee would capitalize on a Memphis miscue that would prove costly for the Tigers. Freshman Martha Davis led off the seventh with a single to left field. With one out, Muriel Ledbetter hit a single to move Davis to second. A throwing error on the same play allowed Davis to move from second all the way to home and give the Blue Raiders the 3-2 lead. It would prove just enough to take game.

After being held scoreless in game one, Middle Tennessee got on the board in the first inning of the second game. Michelle Wilkes, who returned to the lineup for the first time since March, got on base thanks to a Memphis error. She scored when red-hot Shelby Stiner hit an RBI double to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Memphis tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. The Tigers' Kara Ross hit an RBI double to knot the game. Memphis took the lead, 2-1, in the third inning when Trish White, who entered the game in relief for Ashley Katinas, walked Melissa Nance with bases loaded to score Cara Stiles.

White lasted one inning after coming into relief for Katinas and Katinas re-entered the game in the fourth inning. Katinas came back and tossed three scoreless innings to keep the Blue Raiders in the game and was rewarded with her third win of the season improving to 3-7.

Stiner led the Blue Raiders going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and also stole her 11th base of the season. Reed was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Middle Tennessee just couldn't get its bats to warm up in game one. The Blue Raiders were held to just one hit, which was picked up by Stiner. Katinas tossed 1.2 scoreless innings before being replaced by White.

A Blue Raider error in third inning allowed Memphis to score its first run of the game. White gave up a run in the sixth inning for the Tigers second run. White took the loss and falls to 3-11.

Middle Tennessee plays its second Sun Belt Conference series of the season on Friday when the team plays a single game at North Texas at 4 p.m. The Blue Raiders conclude their series with the Mean Green on Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
