AUBURN, Ala. - Middle Tennessee senior Corrie Abel tallied her 195 career hit on Sunday in a 10-0 loss to the 15-0 Auburn Tigers on the final day of competition at the 2011 War Eagle Classic at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Ala.
Abel wasted no time re-writing history, doubling to center field off of Tigers' pitcher Jenee Loree in the first inning of play. The knock was her fifth double of the year and ties her with Allison Cheatham for most hits in an MT career.
Despite Abel's historic day, the Blue Raiders did not have an answer for the red-hot undefeated Tigers. Auburn's offense ran off Middle Tennessee starting-pitcher Shelby Stinnett after two-third innings. Tigers took five runs off the Forest Hill, Tenn., native on five hits. Fellow freshman Jordyn Fisherback tried to stop the bleeding, but was no match on the day for the Tiger bats. Stinnett takes her first loss of the season. Middle Tennessee moves to 4-7 on the season.
The Blue Raiders will continue play next weekend as they are set to take part in the 2011 Tennessee Tech Tournament in Cookeville, Tenn. Live audio of selected games as well as full coverage will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com and Twitter.com/MT_Softball.
