MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball's Natalie Ysais went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs as the team defeated the Falcons of Bowling Green 7-5 on Tuesday at Blue Raider Field. The Blue Raiders moved to 5-9 on the year. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled do to rain.
Middle Tennessee got on the score sheet first in the bottom of the third on a Nina Dever lead off single. On the following play, Dever stole the first base of her career. Nina Davenport and Brittney Banania each worked walks on the next two plays, before Corrie Abel stepped in and roped her 11th RBI of the season. A Natalie Ysais RBI-single and two consecutive RBI-walks coaxed by Kayla Toney and Kelsey Dortch moved the score to 4-0.
BGSU pulled one back in the top of the fourth, before Dever blasted her second homer for the season in the bottom half of the frame. Ysais tacked on two more runs with a double up the middle, bringing home Banania and Abel. Banania was hit by pitch and Abel reached via throwing error. MT led 7-1 at that point.
The Falcons pulled four back in the sixth off a grand-slam over the left field wall. Jordyn Fisherback regained her composure and would close the door in the seventh to get her third victory of the season. In the winning effort, the freshman struck out six batter, while allowing three free-passes.
The victory was head coach Sue Nevar's 21st career victory against BGSU.
The teams would only get in one inning of the second game before the contest was called for rain.
The Blue Raiders return to action on March 11th, as the team will open competition at the 2011 FAU Invitational. Full results and coverage will be available at GoBlueRaiders.com and Twitter.com/MT_Softball.
