Looks to first NCAA Indoor All-American from MT since Walker in 2006March 10, 2011 · Athletic Communications
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee trackman Noah Akwu will run the 200-meter dash on Friday at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.
The Egume, Nigeria native will run the preliminary round at 6:45 p.m., and if qualified will move on to the finals later in the evening.
Akwu, the reigning Sun Belt Indoor Champion in the event, was crowned so at last month's conference meet in Jonesboro, Ark., and enters Friday's NCAA meet ranked third nationally with a converted time of 20.61. The mark was earned in the preliminary round of SBC Championship.
Should Akwu finish in the top-eight of the final round, he will become the first Blue Raider since Christian Nsiah in 1996 to earn All-American in the event in the 200-meter dash. He would also be the first male since Juan Walker in 2006 to be named indoor All-American. Walker garnered the honor in the long jump.
Live results and full coverage of Akwu at Friday's NCAA Indoor Championships will be available at GoBlueRaiders.com.
