Four Athletes Post Wins at National City Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - JJ Sturm, Kerry Barrow, Jonathan Guillou and Derek Dell all won events, leading the Middle Tennessee track teams Friday and Saturday at the National City Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky.

Sturm, a senior, won the triple jump with a mark of 47-5.25 while freshman Brandon Jones was sixth with a mark of 44-8.

Barrow, another senior, was first in the 400-meters with a time of 59.08, with sophomore Marjorie Gombert fourth in 1:10.73.

Guillou, a senior as well, finished 1-2 in the 1500-meters with junior Tony Carufe with times of 4:03.89 and 4:06.87, respecetively. Dell, yet another senior, won the 5000-meters in a time of 15:12.40.

In the hammer throw Friday, senior James Thomas, junior Willie Parker and senior Nick Diel placed 2-3-4 in the hammer throw with marks of 169-11, 162-1 and 160-7, respectively. Senior Meaghan Byrd was sixth in the hammer on Friday with a mark of 143-4.

In other events on Saturday, senior Julius Defour was third in the high jump, clearing 6-2.75, and junior JaKeith Hairston finished fourth with a mark of 6-0.75.

Sturm finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 23-6.75 and Hairston was eighth with a mark of 22-5. Sophomore Sierra Douglas placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 18-0.5 and was second in the triple jump with a mark of 39-10.

In the discus, Thomas and Parker were fourth and fifth, respectively, with marks of 143-2 and 139-10. Parker was second and Thomas fourth in the shot put with marks of 50-2, and 45-10, respectively. Byrd placed third in the shot put with a mark of 44-6.

In the running events junior Derek Carey and Jonathan Oliver placed third and fourth, respectively, with times of 11.26 and 11.28. Freshman Ryan Hood finished seventh in the 800-meters in 2:02.00 and freshman Jeremy Turner was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.47. Turner also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles kin 55.61.

The men's 4x400-meter relay was fourth in 3:29.34.

On the women's side freshman Erika Palmer placed fourth in 12.51 and Barrow was seventh in the 200-meters in 25.58. In the 100-meter hurdles freshman Iceca Epps and senior Lamunika Eberhart were 5th and 6th, respectively, with times of 16.65 and 16.70.
