Blue Raiders drop final game of series 13-2 to Owls

The Blue Raiders (5-16, 0-6) used three relief pitchers in the inning with freshman Cody Tollison recording the final out against the only batter he faced. Senior Eric Gilley took the loss on the mound after allowing five runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Middle Tennessee had four hits in the game including a home run by sophomore Johnny Thomas to begin the game. Seniors Will Skinner and Tyler Acker along with freshman Hank LaRue also had one hit in the game.
FAU (16-8, 5-1) ended the game with 13 hits led by Alex Hudak who went 3 for 3 with a double, RBI and scored three runs. Three other Owl hitters each had two hits and Mike Spano drove in a team high three runs.
Thomas led the game off with a home run to the right field corner. The Kenner, La., native is the first Blue Raider to hit a home run to lead off a game since Tyler Burnett against Western Kentucky on May, 15, 2009.
FAU answered quickly in the bottom of the inning as Hudak singled down the right side allowing Church, who singled, to score from third, 1-1.
The Owls' Spano doubled to the right field corner in the fourth allowing Hudak to score from second and give FAU a 2-1 lead. Then a sacrifice fly to left field by Bukovich allowed Delguidice to score from third. FAU ended the fourth inning scoring two runs on two hits for a 3-1 lead.
Delguidice singled up the middle allowing Hudak to score from second and giving FAU a 4-1 lead in the sixth. The hits and runs kept coming for the Owls who scored 10 runs on nine hits for a 12-run lead, 13-1.
Middle Tennessee will play five games next week beginning with Lipscomb on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. but has been moved to 3 p.m. due to a function on Lipscomb's campus.
