MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's softball team is set to play host to Lipscomb on Tuesday in doubleheader action at Blue Raider Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., with live audio and statistics available on GoBlueRaiders.com.
Tuesday's doubleheader will be the team's only games this week as the squad enters their conference by weekend. The team is coming off a 2-4 showing last weekend in conference series with Florida Atlantic and South Alabama.
In two starts last week, pitcher Jordyn Fisherback was phenomenal, throwing all 14 innings and allowing just one run for a total ERA of 0.50. Her shutout of the Owls on Tuesday was the first of her Blue Raider career. She posted a strikeout to walk ratio of 11/8 and gave up just eight combined hits.
Junior-college transfer Kelsey Woodruff was the team's leading batter. After battling through injuries all season long, Woodruff got her start of the year in Tuesday's doubleheader with FAU. In her first six starts last week, Woodruff had a three home runs and six RBIs off of five hits. The highlight of her week came Saturday when she blasted a two-run homer over the leftfield wall in the seventh inning to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 victory over South Alabama.
All-time, Middle Tennessee holds a 12-11 series advantage against Lipscomb. The Bison have won lost their previous three meetings, including a sweep of last season's doubleheader in Nashville.
In the two-game set, Corrie Abel led the Blue Raiders tallying three hits, but the biggest highlight came in the first inning of the second game when then senior Caitlin McLure stole two bases. The pair of stolen bags gave her 70 in her career and passed Jamie Polsteen for most in Blue Raider history.
This year, Lipscomb is 18-12, including a 5-1 mark in Atlantic Sun play. They are coming off doubleheader split of conference foe Campbell last weekend. The Bison did sweep a doubleheader with Western Kentucky earlier in the season.
