Softball to take on Ole Miss

Team needs senior production down the stretch

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball is set to travel to Oxford, Miss., on Wednesday to square off with Ole Miss in doubleheader action. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Wednesday's doubleheader will serve as a tune-up for the Blue Raiders after a week off from play. The team's most previous action saw Middle Tennessee sweep a doubleheader with Lipscomb last Wednesday.

In the game, the MT pitching staff stymied the normally hard-hitting Lady Bisons, giving up just four earned runs in the two games. Kelsey Dortch had the highlight of the day, when she turned a misplayed fly ball to deep center field into the first inside-the-park home run of her career.

Ole Miss enters Wednesday 13-29 on the year, including a 3-14 mark in SEC play. With the reeling Rebels dropping five of their last six, MT has an opportunity to steal a pair on the road.

Senior leadership will be an important key to victory for Middle Tennessee. The senior duo of Corrie Abel and Kelsey Dortch have a combined .491 average with runners in scoring position. They have also driven in 38 runs of the team's runs. Fourteen of Abel's 23 RBIs have come with two outs.

Also contributing to the senior success is Brittney Banania. Banania leads the Sun Belt conference with 10 sacrifice bunts and has a .650 success rate when looking to advance Blue Raider runners.

Following the mid-week doubleheader with Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee will travel to Lafayette, La., where they will resume conference play with a weekend series with the Ragin' Cajuns. Live-stats and audio for all of this week's games will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com with post-game interviews and content on Twitter.com/MT_Softball.
