LAYAFETTE, La. - The Middle Tennessee softball team dropped the finale of their weekend conference-series with Louisiana on Sunday at Lampson Park.
Despite their best efforts, Middle Tennessee could not bring home a run to break the shut out thrown by UL pitcher, Ashley Brignac. The Blue Raiders did manage eight base runners in the game, but could not come up with the clutch hits to bring home the runs. Nina Davenport lead the squad reaching on two of three at bats, including a single and a walk. She also had a team high four putouts.
The Ragin' Cajuns looked as if they would run away with the game early after taking a 4-0 lead in the first two innings. However, MT pitcher Janele Robinson settled down and was able to retire nine out of 13 batters over the third, fourth and fifth frames, halting the hard-charging Louisiana attack. The Cajuns did find an answer in the sixth, tallying four runs to win the game 8-0 in walk-off fashion.
On the weekend, Middle Tennessee moves to 14-27 overall, including a 5-13 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Blue Raiders will return to action on Wednesday as they play host to rival WKU. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 6 p.m. Full results and coverage will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com and Twitter.com/MT_Softball.
