Blue Raiders down Blazers 5-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Middle Tennessee defeated UAB 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in its final regular season match before the Sun Belt Championships next week.

The Blue Raiders began the match by winning the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Shaun Waters and Ben Davis defeated Tom Puetz and David Zimmerman 8-5 at No. 1. At No. 3 doubles, junior Matthew Langley and r-freshman Dimitri Pippos won their match 8-2 over Daniel Moser and Lucas Dirube.

In singles action, Davis defeated Zimmerman 6-4, 6-2 making it his 14th straight set win of the season. Langley defeated Puetz at No. 3 singles 6-2, 4-6 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.

Pippos and Barnwell also each posted singles wins to aid the Blue Raiders. Pippos defeated Danny Manlow 6-3, 6-3 while Barnwell won his match 7-5, 6-2 over Moser.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Wednesday, April 20 when it travels to Mobile, Ala., for the Sun Belt Championships. More information on the Blue Raiders in the Sun Belt Championships will be posted as it becomes available.
