Klemetz Falls in Semis

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's 18th-ranked Daniel Klemetz won his quarterfinal match Sunday over Tiago Ruffoni before falling in the tourney semifinals at the Omni Hotels Region III Championships on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Klemetz defeated Todd Widom of Miami (FL) in the Round of 16 on Saturday, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to set up the quarterfinal match with the 19th-ranked Ruffoni of Auburn. Klemetz took care of Ruffoni, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, before falling to 37th-ranked Brandon Wagner of Georgia, 6-2, 4-6, 6-7, in the tournament semifinals Sunday afternoon.

In doubles action, two Blue Raider duos faced each other Saturday in Round of 16 play, with Trevor Short and Michael Staniak winning a 9-8 decision over teammates Oliver Foreman and Robert Gustafsson. Short and Staniak then fell to Tennessee's Simon Rea and Mario Toledo, 8-1, in the quarterfinals.

Klemetz and doubles partner Kirk Jackson also won their Round of 16 match Saturday, 8-2, over LSU's Bryan Fisher and Jesse Smatt. Auburn's Andy Colombo and Ruffoni defeated Klemetz and Jackson, 8-4, in doubles quarterfinal play Saturday afternoon.
