Akwu runs season-best at NCAA East Prelims

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Middle Tennessee trackman Noah Akwu ran a season-best time of 46.53 in the 400-meter dash at the 2011 NCAA East Region Preliminary on Friday.
Despite his strong time, Akwu did not garner a top-12 finishing place needed to advance to next month's NCAA Outdoor Track Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. He took 14th in the semi-final round.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Rosina Amenebede clocked a time of 13.96, placing her 32nd overall.
High jumper Ann Dudley leapt the opening height of 5-5 (1.65m). She was unable to clear the next height and took 37th in the competition. Cherice Robertson entered, but did not record a jump.
France Makabu placed 37th in the triple jump, marking 39-8.75 (12.11m). Kortney Thurman finished 44th in the event with a final jump of 38-0 (11.58m).
Thurman qualified for June 6th NCAA Outdoor Championships in the long jump on Thursday.
