MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Milwaukee Brewers have called up former Blue Raider third baseman Brett Carroll from the Triple-A Nashville Sounds.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native was hitting .281 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI through 93 games for the Sounds. Carroll is expected to replace center fielder Carlos Gomez, who fractured his clavicle on Wednesday and is out indefinitely.
The Brewers' call-up marks the second big-league team for Carroll. In each of the four previous seasons, Carroll saw action with the Florida Marlins. In 173 major-league games, Carroll hit .205 with five home runs and 28 RBI.
