McDonald, Beyah look to shine in final year
Unit has good mix of experience, youthJuly 31, 2011 · Athletic Communications
Battle to Watch: The one to keep an eye on will be for the "Z" starting spot between Malcolm Beyah and Andrew Banks. Both had strong springs and showed improvement in all areas. Beyah provides big play capability and Banks is a player who can play all four positions.
Spring Standout: Sophomore Richard Drake is a guy who clearly stepped up his play in the spring. Coaches saw a dramatic change in his work ethic and the fact he competed on a daily basis. Drake caught the ball well and became more accountable in the run game. He was presented the award for most improved among the receivers following spring drills.
Coach Watts on the wide receivers
"There is a good mix of experience and youth and I like the fact we came out of spring raising our level of play. We have guys battling at all four positions and I feel real comfortable with our two-deep. All of the guys grasped the new changes to our offense and I am very excited to see them peform this fall. We had four guys miss all of spring practice with injuries and three more who did not finish so getting healthy is critical for the entire group."
