MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - With the season a week away, the Middle Tennessee volleyball team will play the annual Blue-White Match on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Gym.

"This has kind of turned into a tradition for us," head coach Matt Peck said. "We're going to be a little short-handed due to a minor injury or two, but it's a good time. It gives a chance for some people to come out and watch, and it gives us a chance to work out some bugs. It's good for the girls too."

The match, which is open to the public, will serve as an intrasquad scrimmage for the defending Sun Belt champions, and is the only opportunity for fans to see the squad in action prior to the start of the season next Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.

"I think we'll have a lot of fun," Peck added. "It's fun for the staff as well because we can get a bit competitive as well, and it's a fun atmosphere for the kids too."

POSITION BATTLES

With a strong incoming freshmen class, a number of position battles have developed over the course of camp at nearly every position.

"We've had some outstanding competition at all positions this camp," Peck said. "Only one or two players have earned their starting spot so far. We'll probably have some of those questions answered for us this weekend."

"But also, we're not in any hurry about that either," Peck continued. "We're very deep this year compared to previous ones, and I think we're going to be able to show a lot of different line-ups over the course of the season."
