Women’s tennis gets underway at home this weekend
Blue Raiders play host to fall-opening tournament
September 16, 2011 · Athletic CommunicationsMURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women’s tennis team will open its fall tournament calendar by playing host to the MT Shootout Saturday and Sunday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
“We are excited about getting started and playing in some matches against other schools,” said first-year head coach Shelley Godwin. “This weekend will be a chance for our fans to see a bunch of different schools all in one place with good competition all around. I know our players are anxious to hit the courts.”
The two-day event will feature the host Blue Raiders and five other schools: Austin Peay, Belmont, Lipscomb, Memphis and Western Kentucky. It will be a compass draw format to maximize the number of matches for each individual player from each school, in both singles and doubles.
Middle Tennessee’s roster features four seniors who will be playing their final collegiate campaigns in Murfreesboro. The quartet includes Marietta Bigus, Taylor Coffey, Alex Dachos and Carla Nava. Other returners include Lexi Brand and Yuiri Nomoto.
Tournament action is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free to the event at the Blue Raiders’ home on-campus facility.
