MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a three-week break, the Middle Tennessee women’s tennis team will return to action this weekend, Friday through Sunday, when it travels to Lafayette, La., to participate in the Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis Classic hosted by Louisiana.
“The girls have spent the past two weeks working hard as a team to improve,” head coach Shelley Godwin said. “This weekend provides a great opportunity for the girls to see all of their hard work begin to pay off. We are excited to hit the road for the first time this season.”
The fall campaign opened Sept. 17-18 for the Blue Raiders when they hosted the MT Shootout at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center on campus. Sophomore newcomer Flavia Nagayama was the lone Middle Tennessee player to win all three of her singles matches, while seniors Marietta Bigus and Carla Nava finished with 2-1 marks.
Nagayama paired with freshman Nayara Moraes for a 2-0 doubles ledger and the other three Blue Raider tandems each posted a 2-1 record to conclude a successful start to the season.
Yuiri Nomoto registered the top MT record in the then-called UL Invitational a year ago, collecting a 5-1 mark. All five of her singles victories were in straight sets and her 3-0 ledger in the NE bracket gave her the flight title.
The UL Invitational is the second of four fall tournaments on the calendar for the Blue Raiders this season.
