MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men’s tennis head coach Jimmy Borendame announced the addition of two signees for the spring season on Wednesday. Yannick Born and Christoph Lang will join the Blue Raiders for the 2012 spring season.

“Both Yannick and Christoph are the whole package and we’re excited to have them join our program,” Borendame said. “In addition to being well-rounded individuals, they are hard workers with a lot of experience and will be formidable opponents because of their aggressive styles. I expect both of them to be impact players immediately.”

Born, a native of Hannover, Germany, was a 2010 doubles semifinalist in the German National Junior Championship. Currently ranked No. 19 nationally among his age group, he finished in the top ten nationally in 2006 and 2007, in addition to a top-200 finish in Europe in 2008. Born was a singles finalist in the U-14 Tennis Europe tournament, doubles finalist in the U-16 tournament and a U-18 club team champion from 2008-11. He reached four finals and earned one national tournament victory in 2011. Born, the younger brother of former MT two-time All-American Marco Born, is ranked 286th overall nationally.

“Having Yannick become a Blue Raider and follow in the footsteps of his brother Marco is a testament to the strong tradition of our program,” Borendame said. “Yannick plays a huge game with a lot of upside, and I expect him to impact both singles and doubles immediately.”

Lang, a native of Vienna, Austria, has worked his way to a No. 52 national ranking. A two-time national champion in 2009 and 2010, Lang twice played in the 2008 ITF doubles finals, once in Oslo and once in Abu Dhabi, while also appearing the singles finals in Abu Dhabi. He finished third at the European Doubles Championship in Moscow in 2008 and was a member of the Austrian Junior Davis Cup Team. Lang was the U-16 Austrian Champion in singles and doubles in 2007, and also won the U-14 doubles title in 2005 and 2006.

“Christoph is an accomplished serve and volley player with some of his best results in doubles,” Borendame said. “I anticipate Christoph getting better and better with each match and potentially becoming one of the top competitors for MTSU later in his career.”

Born, Lang and the rest of the Blue Raiders open the 2012 campaign on Jan. 18 at Vanderbilt. The match will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
