KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Middle Tennessee soccer added two more academic accolades to its postseason honor roll, as juniors Allison Stallard and Paige Goeglein earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) University Scholar All-South Team plaudits. Stallard was recognized on the Second Team, while Goeglein collected a Third Team nod.
“The College Scholar Athlete award is a great award as it recognizes players for their performances on the field and in the classroom,” said head coach Aston Rhoden. “I'm really proud of Allison and Paige for receiving this award. They consistently make the same level of commitment to their school work as they do their game and are finally being recognized for their efforts.”
The Blue Raider pair was the only Sun Belt Conference players on the three 2011 NSCAA All-South Teams honored by the NSCAA. A total of 16 Middle Tennessee student-athletes have now been recognized by the organization since 2006 with at least two per year.
Stallard garnered her first All-Sun Belt athletic honor this fall and named to the league’s Second Team in addition to the NSCAA All-South Third Team. She was one of four MT players to start all 20 matches and from her defensive position had a career campaign offensively. She was third on the squad with three goals, including two game winners, while tying for fourth with seven points. Her first score of the fall came at Auburn (Aug. 26), becoming the only Middle Tennessee player to crack the back of the net against the Tigers. After teammate Regina Thomas drew a foul inside the 18-yard box against Arkansas State (Sept. 30) in the home conference opener, Stallard put home the penalty kick, which proved to be the game winner. The Colleyville, Texas, product added another clinching score at Louisiana (Oct. 14) when her free kick from 30 yards out found the top left corner of the net.
Goeglein, one of three captains on this year’s team, earned her first All-Sun Belt nod after she started 18 of the 19 games. She scored two goals for four points and added 33 shots, 14 of which were on goal. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native netted both of her scores a week apart against conference foes, tallying goals against Florida Atlantic (Oct. 7) and at Louisiana (Oct. 14). She also ripped a season-best five shots, placing three on goal, at No. 23 Tennessee (Sept. 2).
