Successful weekend comes to a close for Blue Raiders at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Matthew Langley completed the weekend sweep with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Columbia’s Nathaniel Gery to earn the Flight B title at the Larsen Bowker Invite hosted by Virginia Tech. The duo of Ben Davis and Christoph Lang also won the Flight A doubles title, earning the tiebreaker against two other pairs.

“We played really well the entire weekend and I was very happy with the results,” head coach Jimmy Borendame said. “We won a lot of matches and had some great individual as well as doubles performances. This weekend is definitely something we can build on for the rest of the season.”

In addition to Langley, Ben Davis, Ettore Zito, Christoph Lang and Marlon Brand also won singles matches. Brand (6-1, 6-1) and Lang (7-6, 6-4) each won in straight sets, while Davis (6-2, 6-7, 7-6) and Zito (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) battled through three tough sets, each dropping the second, before coming away victorious.

Davis and Lang won their doubles match, 8-5, and were declared the winner because they won 22 games over the weekend, topping the other two doubles teams who were tied with them.
