MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women’s tennis will open a four-match homestand when it plays host to Murray State at the on-campus Buck Bouldin Tennis Center at 11 a.m. Saturday.

“We are excited to kick-off our four-match homestand with Murray State Saturday,” head coach Shelley Godwin said. “We are coming off a solid road win in which we gained a lot of confidence. We are looking to carry that momentum and confidence into our match this weekend.”

The Blue Raiders raised their record to 6-4 last Saturday by handing Florida Atlantic a 4-3 setback for the program’s first win in four tries against the Owls. Junior Yuiri Nomoto clinched the victory with her three-set triumph at No. 1 singles.

Junior Lexi Brand and freshman Nayara Moraes continue to pace Middle Tennessee with six singles wins this spring. Brand has won two matches each at the No. 2, 3 and 4 slots, while two-thirds of Moraes’ victories have come at the No. 4 position.

Brand and senior Marietta Bigus own the most doubles wins of any Blue Raider pairing with three. Eight different tandems have played for MT through its first 10 matches, as Godwin looks for the best combinations on the court.

Murray State owns a 4-4 overall record entering the weekend. The Racers dropped their most recent match, a 5-2 setback at Southern Illinois, after two-straight 5-2 victories over Central Arkansas and Saint Louis.

Middle Tennessee has won the last 19 matches in the series, dating back to 1990. Last year, the two teams met for the first time since 2006 with the Blue Raiders prevailing 6-1 Feb. 18 in Murfreesboro.
