Women's golf 10th at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. - Karisa Akin posted an even-par round in the second on, and the Middle Tennessee women's golf team shaved five strokes off their first round total to end in 10th (out of 17) after the opening day of play at the Pinehurst Challenge on Course No. 6 (Par 72, 5,983 yards) on Monday at Pinehurst Golf Resort.

Akin carded a three-over 75 in the opening round before moving into a tie for 13th in the 93-player field after shooting a 72 in the afternoon. The senior is seven strokes off the lead, which is held by N.C. State's Vivian Tsui at four-under.

Allie Knight posted a three-over 75 and a four-over 76 to tie for 37th at seven-over, and Natalie Chrisopulos posted a first round 75 on the way to ending the day in a tie for 57th at 11-over.

Olivia Love and Ashley Haggard are tied for 61st and 65th, respectively, at 12-over and 13-over.

The Blue Raiders will play in the final round of the Pinehurst Challenge on Wednesday.
