KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Blue Raider men’s basketball head coach Kermit Davis has been named the 2012 District 24 Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Davis has led Middle Tennessee to a school-record 27 wins this season as the Blue Raiders enter the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament against Minnesota this evening.

This marks the first NABC honor for Davis. The 2012 Sun Belt Coach of the Year earned the league’s top honor after leading the Blue Raiders to a school-record 14 conference victories and the regular-season title. Under Davis’ direction, MT got off to a 20-2 start, including a 10-0 start in Sun Belt action, both of which are school records. The Blue Raiders also set new school marks in home wins (15) and road wins (11) this year. Davis coached three Blue Raiders to all-conference honors this season, including the Sun Belt Player of the Year in LaRon Dendy.

In his 10th year at the helm of the MT programs, Davis has amassed 180 wins, more than any other Blue Raider coach. He became the school’s all-time winningest coach on Dec. 29, 2012, in MT’s victory over FIU. Davis has led the Blue Raiders to more conference road wins over the past 10 seasons than any other league school. Additionally, Davis has garnered the second-most league wins among active coaches.

Davis and the Blue Raiders welcome the Golden Gophers at 6 p.m. CT in Murphy Center. The contest will air on ESPN2 with Brad Nessler and Jimmy Dykes on the call.
