Softball hosts ULM for weekend Sun Belt series
Doubleheader on Saturday, single game SundayMarch 23, 2012 · Athletic Communications
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Blue Raider softball team will look to extend its winning streak this weekend when the squad welcomes ULM to town for a three-game series beginning Saturday.
The conference foes will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CT before facing off in a single game on Sunday scheduled for noon.
Middle Tennessee (9-13, 0-3 Sun Belt) opened its five-game homestand on Wednesday by sweeping a twin bill from Evansville. A couple of dominant pitching performances from Caty Jutson and Shelby Stinnett powered the Blue Raiders to 5-2 and 1-0 wins.
The Warhawks (14-11, 2-4 Sun Belt) enter this weekend’s series following an eight-day break from competition. They took two-of-three from Troy last week in Monroe after getting swept at South Alabama to begin Sun Belt play.
The Blue Raiders will hope to follow up on the outstanding pitching it received from Jutson and Stinnett on Wednesday. Stinnett’s complete game was her third of the season and the eighth overall for Middle Tennessee. The staff has posted nine outings of five or more innings while giving up no more than two earned runs.
Kelsey Woodruff upped her batting average to .339 by going a combined 2-5 on Wednesday. She tallied a pair of doubles with an RBI and run scored in the Blue Raiders’ 5-2 Game 1 victory. Meanwhile Natalie Ysais had her best day of the season against Evansville. The Riverside, Calif., native also went 2-5 on the afternoon while belting her first home run of the season.
Admission is free to all Middle Tennessee softball games. Fans are encouraged to arrive to campus early and park in the gravel parking on MTSU Boulevard across the street from Blue Raider Field and adjacent to the Scarlett Commons apartment complex.
Saturday's weather forecast calls for a chance of inclement weather in Murfreesboro. Please stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook as well as GoBlueRaiders.com for news on possible delays or postponements.
Live stats will be available for both games of the doubleheader and can be accessed here. Periodic updates will also be provided via the Middle Tennessee softball social media pages on Twitter @MT_Softball and on Facebook at the MTSU Softball page.
