Davis was outstanding over the weekend for Middle Tennessee and his performance was especially crucial in the top spot on Sunday. After winning the opening set against No. 71 Georgia State’s Matias Hatem, Davis suffered a broken nose during the second set before dropping the frame, but toughed out the final set for the 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win. The London native’s gutsy performance enabled MT to pick up the 4-3 win. Davis then took down No. 57 South Alabama’s Romain Bocaert to propel the Blue Raiders to the 4-0 victory. The sophomore also teamed up with Christoph Lang for a pair of doubles victories, including a dominating 8-0 victory over Georgia State’s No. 2 duo to clinch the point and the match for MT.
Davis becomes the third Blue Raider in program history to collect at least four Sun Belt weekly awards, tied for the second-most in MT history. He joins John Peers, who earned four weekly honors, and Andreas Siljestrom, who won a program-best seven accolades.
Following Wednesday match against Lipscomb, the Blue Raiders will hit the road for a pair of matches this weekend. MT will face Southern Miss on Friday at 1 p.m., then wrap up the road trip at Tulane on Saturday at 1 p.m.
