Wright paces Track & Field on the plains

AUBURN, Ala. -- Middle Tennessee senior Nyeisha Wright continued her dominant season in the long jump competition as she captured the event title to lead the Blue Raider track & field teams on Saturday at the Tiger Track Classic.
The senior jumper leaped a season-best 19 feet, 9.75 inches (6.04 meters) to win the competition. The victory is her third in the event so far this outdoor season. Euphemia Edem and Amber Dandy also picked up top-10 finishes in the competition as Edem leaped 18-7.75 (5.68m) to place seventh while Dandy finished 10th with a jump of 18-3.25 (5.57m).
Edem also amassed a seventh-place finish in the women’s triple jump, leaping 39-2.25 (11.94). She followed behind France Makabu who notched her third top-five finish of the outdoor season, posting a leap of 40-10.25 (12.45m).
Wright was also part of the women’s 4x100-meter relay team which placed third on Saturday. She joined Rosina Amenebede, Sheniece Daphness and Kiara Henry to clock a time of 45.84 seconds. Amenebede also notched a seventh-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, running a 14.02 and was trailed by Ann Dudley who ran a time of 14.31 to place 13th. Henry meanwhile also picked up a 13th-place finish, posting a time of 11.97 seconds in the 100 meters.
Noah Akwu, Asa Bowman, Steven Palmer and Demetrius Shelton led the Blue Raider men in the relays. The quartet finished third in the 4x400-meter relay as they recorded a time of 3 minutes, 11 seconds.
Amber Jackson once again led the way for Middle Tennessee in the middle distance competitions. The Chicago native bagged a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 55.38. In the men’s event, Steven Palmer finished the race in 48.03 seconds to place eighth overall.
Freshman Christal Wilson had a great showing in the 400-meter hurdles in Auburn, snatching a 10th-place finish while running a time of 1:01.60.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Autumn Gipson logged a time of 11:29.42 to place eighth in the women’s event while Vincent Bett led the way for the Blue Raiders on the men’s side, finishing 13th in 9:50.53.
The Middle Tennessee men continued their 2012 spring season success in the jumps events on Saturday. Sophomore Kameron Rory led the way as the former Shades Valley (Ala.) High School Mountie finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23-4.00 (7.11m). Fellow sophomore Cordairo Golden posted a measurement of 22-9.25 (6.94m) to place seventh.
Next weekend, the Blue Raider track and field teams will send athletes to compete in both the Sea Ray Invitational in Knoxville and the Boston Moon Invitational in Nashville.
