MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - With a number of players lost off of last season's 21-12 team, the Middle Tennessee volleyball program is set to show off who it has coming back next year in the annual spring tournament at Alumni Memorial Gym on Saturday.

"We've had a very good spring so far," head coach Matt Peck said. "We're pretty excited to see what we have. Our team has made some big strides since the end of last season, and I think we have some pretty good competition coming in to play us. I think it'll be a pretty good day. We're going to try some new things with this team and hopefully get started off on the right foot for the 2012 season."

The matches also offer a chance for fans to get a glimpse of Tyler Richardson, who sat out last season with a redshirt, and Alyssa Ivey, a Franklin, Tenn., product who joined the program in January.

"We were deep at middle last year, so I'm really excited to see Tyler get into some game action," Peck said. "This is a nice opportunity for her to show us what she can do. Alyssa Ivey's a new face for us at setter. She'll play a little bit tomorrow, but it's going to be limited because she's coming off an injury."

The tournament also provides a chance for players like Brandi Waller and Monét Marshall, reserves from a year ago, to establish themselves before heading into the offseason.

"Brandi's seen a lot of action for us over the years, but she's going to be looking to take Alyssa Wistrick's place from last year," Peck said. "She's played both in the middle and outside, but now she's pretty locked in at outside. I think she's going to do well. Monét played a little bit for us last year, but she was stuck behind a couple of senior middles."

Austin Peay, ETSU and Tennessee State make up the tournament field, with each school playing in three matches, set to begin at 10 a.m. Round two will be scheduled for 11:30, and following a lunch break, the tournament will conclude with round three at 2:30 p.m.

"The goal this weekend is to get a lot of reps in," Peck said. "We're really pleased with the field we have here this weekend. We have such a young team here, and we're looking to close out the school year on a positive note."
