MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Former Blue Raider LaRon Dendy has joined the Washington Wizards roster for the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The competition features 24 teams and will be held July 13-22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Dendy has been making the rounds over the past couple weeks to various NBA teams for workouts. Last month, he worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder. He traveled to DC earlier this week to earn a spot on the Wizards’ roster.

"I’m proud of showing off my ring to everyone in DC and Vegas. I have to let them know what I’m coming to do."

Despite Dendy’s busy schedule, he took a quick break to call from the Verizon Center and discuss his summer.

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for you. How does it feel to be settled and know where you’re headed?
“It feels really good. When you get a chance to show your skill one more time and to get to do it on the big stage, it’s really amazing.”

What are you looking forward to the most about playing in the Summer League?
“Just going out there playing hard and hoping the Washington Wizards give me a contract for the regular season.”

You’ll be going up against some of the NBA’s top prospects in the Summer League. What do you have to do to set yourself apart?
“I have to be well-prepared to go against these top players. I’m at the gym now and we’ll have two-a-days starting Monday (July 9) until we leave for Vegas.”

You’ll be back in Murfreesboro this weekend to get your Sun Belt championship ring. What does that ring represent to you?
“It makes me think about what we accomplished this year. I’m proud of showing off my ring to everyone in DC and Vegas. I have to let them know what I’m coming to do.”
