Middle Tennessee women's soccer competes against a pair of Ohio Valley Conference foes this weekend. The Blue Raiders travel to Tennessee Tech on Friday at 3pm, before returning home to host Belmont Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
The Blue Raiders (3-2-0) are coming off a 7-1 victory over ETSU last Sunday. MT fired 13 shots as seven different student-athletes tallied goals. The Blue Raiders are looking for their best start since the 2009 season.
Paige Goeglein and Emily Hartshorn were honored as the Sun Belt Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Goeglein, a senior midfielder, accumulated four points, which included a goal and two assists in the victory over the Bucs.
Hartshorn, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, Okla., grabbed defensive honors as she helped limit Vanderbilt and ETSU to just three goals on the weekend.
Middle Tennessee leads the Sun Belt in points (55), goals (20) and assists (15). Goeglein is tops among the league with 2.00 points per game and is tied for first with 0.80 goals per game.
Senior forward Whitney Jorgenson leads the conference with 4 assists through five matches. Against ETSU, Jorgenson tacked on five points after scoring a goal and collecting three assists.
Tennessee Tech (2-3-1) and the Blue Raiders are meeting for the 13th time on Friday. Middle Tennessee holds a decisive 12-2 advantage in the series. The two squads met last season when the Blue Raiders shutout the Golden Eagles, 2-0, in Murfreesboro. Junior forward Ellie Iaciofano leads TTU with a team-best seven points in six matches.
The Blue Raiders and Belmont meet for the 12th time Sunday afternoon with Middle Tennessee holding a 7-4 edge in the series. MT and the Bruins last met in the regular season on Sept. 6, 2009 when the Blue Raiders picked up the 1-0 win.
Belmont (3-2-0) has dropped two of its last three contests, including a 2-1 overtime loss to Miami (Ohio). The Bruins are led by Katie Proud, who has tallied two goals this season.
